Porsche North America Had An Absolutely Incredible 2020

What coronavirus?
It's been a challenging year for automakers and with 2020 sales numbers now in, it's clear that some have fared better than others. Typically during tough economic times, even wealthy buyers hold off on making big purchases, but it appears not even the coronavirus could stop them from flocking to Porsche dealerships across the US. Porsche has just announced the total retail deliveries of its entire lineup for 2020 and the results are extremely impressive.
The bottom line is this: Porsche US had its second-best year ever with a total of 57,294 new vehicles sold. 2020's total is down by only 6.9 percent from 2019 with the pandemic unsurprisingly being identified as the direct cause.
Still, 2020 exceeded 2018's total. In the fourth quarter of this year alone, a record 17,560 units were sold, an increase of 6.4 percent from one year ago. Q4 was also the second positive quarter in a row, meaning Porsche NA's sales really only took a hit during Q2 during the height of the pandemic and statewide shutdowns.
“Achieving our second-best sales year in the US despite the many challenges of 2020 is a testament to the resilience of Porsche, the dedication of our dealer partners, and the excitement generated by our brand,” said Kjell Gruner, the newly installed President and CEO of PCNA.
It's also important to remember 2020 was the first model year of the Porsche Taycan EV, which proved to be an instant hit.
California saw the greatest demand, consisting of nearly one-quarter of the 4,414 units sold nationwide. The best-selling model was, once again, the Macan (18,631), followed by the Cayenne (18,092). A total of 8,840 911s were sold, consisting of all variants while only 3,447 718s left dealership lots. Without question, the Panamera suffered the biggest hit compared to last year when 6,625 examples were sold. In 2020, that figure dipped to 3,870. Chances are the Taycan's arrival was a factor.
Also noteworthy is that Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned sales also increased in 2020, specifically by 8.6 percent compared to last year with a total of 27,261 deliveries.
